How do I claim the £7500 BUS grant?

Boiler upgrade Scheme (BUS)

Its really simple to qualify for the grant, its not a means tested grant therefore income don’t come into play.

The BUS applies looks at the property you’re applying for and looks at the 3 key points below

  • Property Ownership: You must own the property you're applying for, whether it's your primary residence, a second home, or a rental property.

  • Heating System Replacement: You need to be replacing an existing fossil fuel heating system, including oil, gas, electric, or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) boilers.

  • Energy Performance Certificate (EPC): Your property must have a valid EPC, which is typically valid for 10 years

So in summary, as long as you have A domestic dwelling and your NOT replacing another renewable system ( such as swapping out an air source for a ground source)  then you'll qualify.

How is the money paid?

As long as you use a certified installer then They will claim the grant for you and it will come off the purchase price.  So if a whole system costs £10,000 with a certified installer.  You ill only pay them £2500

It sounds too good to be true!

Yes , correct we don't see the government handing out large sums of money very often.  The truth is the UK needs to meet certain environmental standards and install 600,000 heat pumps by 2028 so need to make it attractive for householders to switch.

Is there a deadline?

Yep, sure is, The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is scheduled to run until 31 December 2027
